Home

I've been sitting with the idea of home lately.
I once thought that I found it in a city.
A thriving metropolis of beautiful people
Doing important things
With their earphones in
And their eyes to the ground.
It didn't quite fit.

I once thought I found it in a woman.
A vibrant green-eyed goddess
With her head in the clouds
And her smile
A thin cloak barely covering her sad heart
It didn't quite fit.

I once thought I found it in a building.
Open floor plan
Granite countertops
High ceilings
It didn't quite fit.

A Job
An Asana
Accolades and Popularity
All distractions keeping me from doing the actual work.

This is the practice:
Can I sit still in this skin?
Alone with these bones and this breath
And feel at home?
Lacking nothing.
Quietly listening for the soft expansive hum
Of a peaceful heart.
